64 bit OS Limitations.

Over the past three months we have had several OASIS customer sites upgrade servers and office PCs.

OASIS runs perfectly well on PCs running 32 bit as well as 64bit OS (Operating Systems) including WIN7.

However, this memorandum is to inform you that we have experienced some limitations / problems with 64 bit architecture specifically with the following modules:

1. AESVpn is 32 bit only. Descartes confirmed that the AESVpn (SED EDI OASIS Transmissions) will not operate on 64 bit OS

2. For OASIS Client sites having AccountEx systems AccountEx runs most operations perfectly. However the EOM or "Monthly Closeout and EOY Annual Accounting Close out procedures" can only be executed on a 32 bit PC i.e.: 32 bit XPPro.

3. Some OASIS utilities will not run on 64 bit architecture.

WORKAROUND:

a. there are actually two workarounds. Preferred method which we have successfully implemented is to run AESVPn on a dedicated PC running XPPro. This PC needs to be running 24/7 and have internet access in order to facilitate the in/out transmissions of the x12 Edi SED messages.

Ditto for AccountEx function dealing with EOM procedures. Simply placing an AccountEx executable ACCTEX.EXE icon on the 32 bit XPPro Desktop will allow the EOM procedure to function properly.

b. A more complex solution would be to install WMWare Player http://www.wmware.com/products/player/ and installing XPPro as the OS. There are some mapping issues and this setup is more complicated requiring the assistance of your local MIS support team.

A simple explanation of 32 bit vs 64 bit may be found here http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2327903,00.asp

We would also like to bring to your attention that we require at least 48 hour advance notice when contemplating a server upgrade. There are multiple pre-installation requirements, specifically for OASIS client sites operating AESVpn and or OasisEtrack 24/7 cargo tracking modules.

Please take a moment to review http://www.melcogroup.com/general_policies.htm {Technical instructions when moving OASIS from an old server to a new server} section.

We take this opportunity to thank you for being our client and friend and remain with kindest regards,

Erwin Melzer
