Over the years there have been some OASIS client sites which suddenly started to experience frequent & persistent Oasis file corruptions. Often trying to find the cause is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
  • Is it a PC that has a memory problem?
  • A network card that is flaking out?
  • A server that is past it's prime?
When operating a true networked software program like OASIS from a server, office computers are connected to OASIS via an icon on the users PC desktop. This is usually ok and works well. However the entire network, office PC's and ancillary equipment must be in perfect working order in order for OASIS to perform in an error free state.

However, the most reliable way to operate OASIS is via RDP or Remote Desktop Protocol. Why?

  • RDP bypasses the OS {Operating System} completely and operates / emulates Main Frame performance.
  • Since you have a direct connection to the Server which is where OASIS is installed performance is greatly increased due to the fact that data is not fetched back to the PC and bandwidth / network traffic is reduced.

There are other reasons / considerations but above is a general thumb sketch.

Our Suggestion based on 23+ years of experience and over 500+ installation are:

1. Disable DISK CACHING on each USER PC and SERVER if possible. Disk Caching places info sort of in a TEMP area and if any OS problems occur can create data corruption.

2. MOST IMPORTANTLY, have your tech INSTALL TERMINAL SERVER / SERVICES on your NETWORK SERVER. HAVE all users connect to SERVER NOT with ICON but via RDP Remote Desktop Connection which is accomplished if TS Terminal Services is already installed OR via purchase of CAL's CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES.

#2 is most reliable means of running a big program like OASIS bypassing all WINDOWS PC Operating SYSTEM and avoiding 99% of computer problems since all action is at the server with no PC OS interference. Big benefit also in addition to most relievable means of running program is that system runs about 50% faster.
