May 18, 1998 Article by GCN Online 'Windows Has Date Flaws.'Windows 98 may be coming to a store near you soon - or maybe not. It seemed as if
Microsoft was going to dodge a potential government-imposed delay, but on Monday 5/18/98,
the prosecuting You may be as curious as we are as to why we \ you should upgrade to WIN98. We have gathered the following facts from various industry publications & other sources. You make the decision...: Bugs - Microsoft claims to have gotten rid of over 3,000 bugs. MGI, Inc. comment: Beats us...!FAT 32 - Windows 95 has a recognizable limit of 2GB (gigabytes = 1,000 megabytes). A computer with say a 6GB hard drive, has to be partioned every 2GB. This partitioning wastes space. In addition, WIN 95 allocates every file to a 16kb file size regardless of how large it was when it began. A 1KB piece of data is placed in a 16KB file, wasting space. WIN 98 gets rid of this limitation. MGI, Inc. comment: Very useful if you have VLD 'very large drives', otherwise not a compelling reason to go through the expense and headaches to upgrade. If it works just fine, don't touch it stupid... System Drivers - WIN 98 comes with the latest drivers available by many manufacturers for add-ons such as monitors, printers, modems, scanners, etc. MGI, Inc. comment: Can be helpful, specially if you upgrade new printers and other hardware. However most drivers are available free of charge through the internet directly from the manufacturers. Plug-and-Play - The upgrade is expected to finally bring true plug-and-play capability to PCs. It will support Universal Serial Bus and has several fine options for game players. MGI, Inc. comment: Hey if you gotta play games... go for it. Otherwise we say... nope! As we uncover more reasons, we'll post them here. Y'all come back... |
