Steps To Consider in a Year 2000 Plan

More and more clients keep asking about the Y2K compliance issue. Often, the inquiry
process starts when "you" are requested to inform and provide your clients or
business partners, a certification as to your compliance or plan of action. The following
guidelines and check list may be useful in assisting you in cataloging and implementing a
'Plan Of Action.'
NOTE: Melco Group International, Inc., commenced
it's Y2K compliance review in 1996. In 1996 - 1997 MGI, Inc., commenced the conversion of
it's legacy (DOS) systems to the MS Windows 32 bit (WIN98 and NT server) OS. We certify
that the OASISw V5.0 'Ocean Air Shipping Information System' is fully 2000 year
compliant. We also certify that all available modules under the OASISw V5.0 brand name are
year 2000 compliant.
Take physical inventory of equipment & software
- Conduct inventory at all locations
- Create equipment & software data base
Assess the inventory
- Prioritize inventory by critical ranking
- Sort inventory as non-compliant or compliant
Develop a corrective action plan for non-compliant equipment and software
- Determine non · compliant approach (upgrade, replace or do nothing) for each item
- Develop corrective action plan for each non-compliant item that is to be upgraded or
replaced
- Determine manpower required to accomplish corrective action
- Determine funds required to accomplish corrective action
- Implement corrective action plans
Develop an action plan for ''compliant'' items
- Determine validation method for "compliant" items (supplier / third party
documentation, or internal test)
- Obtain documentation, as required
- Update the equipment & software data base to show results of documentation and/or
testing
Develop a plan for items to be tested
- Define test methods & procedures
- Develop test schedule
- Perform unit & integration tests
- Document results and update data base
- Perform test audits
Develop a compliance assurance plan for newly acquired equipment & software
- Develop plan to prevent purchase of non-compliant equipment & software
- Develop plan to prevent installation of new non-compliant equipment & software
- Develop plan to insure all key suppliers, of materials and services are year 2000
compliant

- Major brand of personal computers i.e.: (Compaq, Dell, Gateway, IBM after 1/1/1997 are
assumed to be compliant)

- EDI systems
- Copiers
- Facsimile machines
- Telephone systems
- Voice mail systems
