Computers (Pc's) just like automobiles require periodic
maintenance. If an automobile engine oil is changed
periodically, the oil filter is changed, tire pressure
checked and so on, chances are that fuel efficiency & driving comfort / safety
will be increased. THe same is true for computer equipment and
PC's specifically.
- If your office PC's / network seem slow or you experience unusual system
freezes these could be symptoms that something may not be right. This affects
the way OASIS and other programs operate. We suggest the following
procedures for starters. You may want to
consult with your MIS / offsite tech.
On each PC:
CHECK HDD (Hard Disk Drive) for errors
======================================
A1. go to START / RUN and enter CMD (this will give
you DOS Prompt.)
2. cd\ (this will return you to the ROOT of C Drive
3. type chkdsk /f ( this utility will check local hard
drive for errors. If found it will attempt to fix them
for you automatically)
CLEAN UP HDD OF UNECESSARY FILES / CLUTTER
==========================================
B1. go to START =>Accessories => SystemTools ===>
Select:
2. DISK CLEANUP and run. (this will show you what
garbage you have and allow you to clean it up from
memory etc.)
OPTIMIZE HDD
================
3. iN Accessories => SystemTools select DEFRAG ( May
take a while but will compact loose fragmented files
in Hard Drive)
CLEAN UP SYSTEM REGISTRY
===========================
C1. DOWNLOAD following program FREE WINDOWS REGISTRY
REPAIR. There are others (just Bing or GOOGLE it) but
we like / suggest following @ Link Below.
You can maybe save the file and then copy the exe when
you download it and put it on a flash drive so you can
install it on all office PC's
http://download.cnet.com/Free-Window-Registry-Repair/3000-2086_4-10606555.html
-
2. do a FULL SCAN wait for results, note all the
errors and then select to fix.
Above our minimum periodic preventative / maintenance
suggestions for office PC's.
